This is so true! Sometimes too much collaboration results in “building a camel.” There’s value in letting individuals create and develop concepts and ideas. There’s danger in watering down great ideas. I had a boss who used to chide us that sometimes our thinking put us in danger of becoming “the Great-Ideas-Killing-Department.” I loved that the way he built collaboration and teamwork in us was by rallying the team to support and run with a great idea, rather than diluting it or worse — killing it. The question is not always: How do we get the whole team bought into the idea? Sometimes the question is: How do we work together to make this idea succeed? It’s up to the leaders to recognize those great ideas and bring them to life.
