The only decent frame for cops on trial I can see is a change of venue by at least 200 miles. By selecting a jury not under the same police department’s thumbs there is a greater chance they would focus on evidence rather than retaliation.

The most common mistake Iv seen among juries is to evaluate the police based on the myth of public safety. Once that illusion is suspended it completely explains why no law enforcement agency is balls out working to stop blood badges.

Among many others, the murder of John Crawford gave us stark and holy shit confusion when the shooting was designated justified with the DA finishing off with this:

“They did exactly what they were trained to do.”

They fired one shot on sight causing Crawford to drop the toy gun and fall to the floor. They fired the second as he was trying to stand up and the toy gun on the floor was almost closer to the cops than Crawford.

With scant information and no shots being fired they entered Walmart and immediately killed Crawford without any attempt for non lethal ending precisely because they are not here for public safety but only control. Not saying all cops are bad but only highlighting institutional programs eventually overcome even the most dedicated.
