I can’t take it anymore
I know that most of you don’t care (either about politics, or my opinion) and that the internet probably isn’t the best venue to express my thoughts, but I’ve reached my limit. When you defend Trump then you’re defending a man who is a Nazi-sympathizer and a defender of members of the KKK and white nationalists. Trump is looked at by members of these groups (and many like them) as their “savior leader” of sorts and they were very open and adamant about their support for him both during the election process and during these past 8 months that he’s served as president. By defending Trump you enable these hate groups that support him to continue with their disruptive and hateful behavior.
These groups are fundamentally un-American and cannot and do not represent any of the ideals that our great nation aspires to. In our own Declaration of Independence it was written that “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” — neo-nazis, white nationalists, and members of the KKK fundamentally do NOT believe this statement to be true — they consider themselves genetically superior to individuals of other ethnicities and creeds and much like Hitler’s own Nazi party believe that they are part of a superior race of individuals — this is unequivocal bullshit that has been scientifically disproven over and over and over and OVER AGAIN. These beliefs are a threat to the very idea of the United States itself.
Donald Trump has shown over the ongoing course of events both in Charlottesville and throughout the entirety of his political career that he does not understand what the United States represents — there is no “America for Americans” (lest you be Native American — which is another lengthy discussion all its own); we are a nation of immigrants brought together by common ideologies, beliefs and mindsets. To be an American doesn’t mean that you come from a specific race, or country, or ethnicity — it means that you value freedom, liberty, and self-determination; it means that you understand and rally behind the thought that our differences are what makes us great — that people from all different backgrounds have the ability to better this country and make this world a better place for future generations.
In spite of all the hypocrisy and evil in the nation’s history — whether it be slavery, it’s treatment of native Americans, women’s rights or a myriad of other issues, there has always been a sort of purity that has managed to shine through — America represents true freedom and self-determination in the world in a way that no nation in human history ever has; we are history’s greatest social experiment — a collection of individuals brought together not by tribal heritage but by belief in ideals and a desire to make a better life for oneself.
Donald Trump does not believe in this America and he does not want our country to represent these things. You cannot be a fascist sympathizer and be an American — the ideas are mutually exclusive; the concept of Fascism is fundamentally UN-AMERICAN. In spite of whatever reason you might find yourself supporting Trump, just remember that this is a man who does not understand our country — he only pretends to; he does not want the best for all Americans, he only wants the best for HIS Americans.
