Thank for this. “Gaslighting” is the correct term. As I hear and read millions of people, yes mostly men, but quite a few women, insist Dr. Ford is lying, is politically motivated, is a Democratic stooge, and is obviously making up her story, my jaw hits the floor. ANYONE who watched that televised fiasco knows who is telling the truth and who is lying, and the person telling the truth is not the person who screamed and threatened like a madman, wept like an infant for 45 minutes, and said “I love beer” 10 times in under 3 minutes. Nor is it the person who perjured himself on the definition of “devil’s triangle”, et al. To hear people insist they thought she was lying and he was telling the truth literally makes you feel crazy.
Did we watch different testimonies? When they say this, are they simply lying or do they actually believe it? Similar to the questions I have about Kavanaugh himself.
Unlike most women (we’re all raised to be small, quiet, not much trouble, and let men do the talking and thinking), I’m quite confident these days in my education, my opinions, my observations, and my voice. But most women are not. If I’m genuinely scratching my head, I can’t imagine what it’s like for the majority who not only have a vested self-interest in agreeing with anything hubby or father says, but may not be gifted at expressing themselves.
They’re trying to convince us we’re crazy. But isn’t that what this administration has been so good at from day one? Don’t trust your eyes, your ears, your mind, your knowledge, or your common sense. Trust Trump. Okay, gotta go write about this. ;)
