A Year of Garbage Movies #95, Furry Vengeance (2010)
Furry Vengeance is a movie about woodland creatures fighting back against a greedy real-estate development company bent on destroying their forest. And by a real-estate company I mostly mean one guy, played by Brendan Fraser. And by fight back I mean “literally attempt to murder and then work backwards from there”.
This is another case where I’m not sure the movie deserved to be on the Bottom 100, even if it is on the shallow end. I mean yeah, the premise is corny, the effects are garbage, and 75% of the movie is Brendan Fraser pretending to be a cartoon character, but I’m struggling to figure out what exactly turned people off so badly. It’s a PG family comedy with Brendan Fraser;you really only have yourself to blame if it fails to meet expectations.
Pros:
- Offers a brief respite before #94, which absolutely deserves to be on this list, probably in a worse position than it is.
- It’s comforting to know that Brendan Fraser is still out there somewhere, watching over us.
Cons:
- “Lady Gaga” is used in place of a swear word, as is “Miley Cyrus” and I resent the insinuation that those two are on the same level. LiTtLe MoNsTeRs 4 LyFe
- Distracts people from the absolute horror-show that was “Dudley Do-Right” that by all rights should be on this list instead, but unfortunately doesn’t have quite enough reviews yet.
- Even though it’s an after-credits scene, there is footage of a half-racoon Brooke Shields licking Fraser’s face and that’s an image that lingers
- The soundtrack is a shuffled Kidz Bop playlist
Next up is the First Boss, as it were, which I fully expect that I’ll have to ingest over several viewings. #94, “Fifty Shades of Grey” (2015). May God have mercy on my soul.
