Thank you for this wonderful article that might be titled, “The role of the whole person in a divided world.” We Americans always seem to gravitate toward technological solutions. Yet our national security depends on a population that is healthy, fit and social. Such a population can create the intellectual firepower and technologies to solve problems. Couch potatoes cannot. Yet today too many of our playgrounds are devoid of kids playing games, even on bright sunny days. Too many adults continually are looking down (at their screens) rather than up to look at each other. Half our young men and women can’t pass either mental or physical tests to get into the military. Too many elementary school kids are kept from physical activity by their overweight sedentary teachers, who complain about their students inattention to their sedentary classes. To thrive our schools must change course. A thorough read of this wonderful article provides some hints about paths our schools might take.
