Bridging the Digital Divide
Our club is excited to bring a new addition to our service project at Montclaire Elementary next school year. We are thrilled to sponsor a Digi-Bridge five-week STEAM Saturdays program in the fall of 2017.
What is Digi-Bridge? It is a relatively new non-profit in Charlotte, NC founded by David Jessup. It seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who live in economically stressed families and neighborhoods.
What is the digital divide? As defined by Wikipedia, it is an economic and social inequality with regard to access to, use of, or impact of information and communication technologies.
What is a STEAM Saturday? STEAM (for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) Saturdays are a special program offered to selected students, immersing them in the basic use of technology to create, communicate, and solve problems. The Digi-Bridge course at Montclaire Elementary will be held on five Saturdays. Each class will last approximately four hours.
To help fund this new program, our club is applying for a Rotary District grant for the 2017–2018 fiscal year. This new program will make a great addition to our long-term service project at Montclaire.
