Don’t Suck…What?
Did I really hear this from a Dad?
I heard the coach yell at his son, “Don’t suck today like you usually do.” I was stunned, shocked and could not believe my ears…it was a Dad to a nine-year old boy. My heart cringed.
In my disbelief, I unfortunately remained silent. Shame on me because evil advances when good men do nothing in the face of wickedness. Never again.
I battle voices in my head that I heard was I was younger. For too long they had power and authority. I have learned (over a lifetime) that the voices and messages are a lie and that they were designed to hold me back…I pray this boy realizes the same…sooner vs later.
As leaders, coaches, teachers, parents, players, mentors…as human beings, we must realize there is life and death in the power of the tongue. Our words can advance goodness, human dignity and glory, or do great harm.
When we say the wrong thing (and we will), let’s admit our mistake, apologize, ask for forgiveness and learn from it. The world needs more people that use their voice to empower others. Be a blessing and not a curse. Please.
