I haven’t watched the homerun derby in quite awhile, mostly because of Chris Berman and his BACKBACKBACKBACKBACKBACK GONE schtick. However, I love it when he is talking during an at-bat, is in the middle of a sentence, and someone hits a line drive homerun that doesn’t leave him time for the requisite BACKBACKBACKs so he says “back gone” after the ball has landed. Is he contractually obligated to say at least one “back” for every HR? Or is he really an evil genius and it’s a running joke to see how long ESPN will keep taking him out of the storage shed and wheeling him out for the HR derby like an old fake Christmas tree every year?
