Get ready to turn up the heat with some of our greatest romance novels of all time by lighting some candles, unwrapping a few chocolates, slipping into something comfortable, and opening our favourite romance novels of all time. There's something on our list for everyone, including those who aren't into the mushy stuff. Many of these books contain romance plus something else, so they're terrific reads even if you don't consider yourself a romance reader. Beyond the bodice-rippers you may have seen hiding in your mother's bedside table or waiting for impulse purchasers at the grocery store checkout counter, the romance genre has a lot to offer. Don't forget to add these to your TBR list.

1.Beautiful World, Where Are You by Sally Rooney

Alice, Felix, Eileen, and Simon are four people trying to find their way in the world in this quiet romantic story. Intrigue emerges (this is a Rooney book, after all), and you'll find your own loyalties moving and shifting as you read.

2.The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood

There’s a reason #Bookstagram is so passionate about this must-read! When Olive Smith, a Ph.D. student, lies to her BFF about meeting someone new, she finds herself in a secret relationship with one of the harshest professors in school. But, as with any secret relationship, things rapidly become tricky, and they must determine how long they can keep the ruse going.

3.Seven Days in June by Tia Williams

Eva and Shane met in a whirlwind week twenty years ago and fell in love. When Eva (now an erotica writer) and Shane (now a bestselling author) manage to cross paths in Brooklyn, they have a shot at closure or reigniting the spark that once brought them together. It's sensuous, sexy, and spicy to the max.

4.Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

Louisa Clark is hired as a caregiver for quadriplegic Will Traynor, whose life has been turned upside down by a motorbike accident. They become completely entwined in each other's worlds as they strive to stave off their increasing affections for each other. (Spoiler: They fail, and now we're crying.)

5.Written on the Body by Jeannette Winterson

This book is not only brilliantly written, but it also contains the ideal blend of erotica, romance, and the intellectual nature of love. It tells the story of a genderless narrator who starts a romance with a married woman and quickly descends into profound sentiments of love and grief.

6.The Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

For the win, more nerdy plots! Stella Lane, a brilliant mathematician, hires escort Michael Phan to teach her the ins and outs of sex in this novel by Helen Hoang. It's the ideal formula for a fantastic book, in our opinion.

7.A Lot Like Adiós: A Novel by Alexis Daria

Another exquisite love story from the author of You Had Me at Hola about a Puerto Rican career-focused woman with no romantic life who gets a fair shot with Gabrielle, the only man who ever made her heart skip a beat. Will they succeed? Will they not? I'll never reveal anything.

8.The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

This 2016 novel will seem familiar if you've ever carried a flame for a coworker (the scandal!). Lucy Hutton and her sworn foe Joshua Templeman have a deadly rivalry, especially because they are competing for the same promotion. At least, that's how it begins.

9.The Proposal by Jasmine Guillory

You can't go wrong with any of Jasmine Guillory's lighthearted romances, but this sporty love story is particularly enjoyable. Nik's boyfriend proposes to her at a Dodgers game, and he can't even spell her name correctly. The video becomes viral after she says no (obviously). Dr. Carlos, a dashing doctor, whisks her away from the chaos, but he can't possibly be the genuine deal. Is he even capable of it?

10.One Last Stop by Casey McQuiston

August isn't expecting to fall in love when she moves to New York City. And she hasn't anticipated her crush being stuck on the Q train – literally. August realises how much her newfound group cares about her and how much she needs them as she grows closer to Jane, a punk rocker from the 1970s.

11.Beach Read by Emily Henry

Could a list of the best romance novels be complete without an Emily Henry pick? You're in for a treat, whether you're just finding her work for the first time or need a reminder to go back and reread it.

12.Read Between the Lines by Rachel Lacey

Every now and then, we all need a trip to unwind. But what happens if you go to Vegas and return married to a complete stranger you met on the street? Grace Porter, on the other hand, would get up and move in with her new wife. Who knows what that short detour might lead to...

13.It Happened One Summer by Tessa Bailey

If you're missing Schitt's Creek's legendary Alexis Rose, then you're in for a treat. Find out what happens when super-rich party girl Piper is forced to relocate to a tiny village and learn the true value of making a dollar with the assistance of a mega-hot fisherman, as inspired by one of TV's best characters.

14.The Siren by Tiffany Reisz

Reisz's rich, page-turning stories are usually hot, and The Siren is one of her best. Nora, a well-known erotica novelist, falls for Zachary, her attractive British editor. Bravo!

15.A Certain Appeal by Vanessa King

Liz Bennett works as a stage kitty for a burlesque group that has become more like a family than a workplace in this modern rendition of Pride and Prejudice. When she first meets Will Darcy, sparks ignite. However, the two are oil and water, and they can't seem to unite (or get rid of each other), exactly like in the original . It's seductive, spicy, and impossible to put down.

16. Bared to You by Sylvia Day

Try the Crossfire series if you prefer your romances in installments. Eva Tramell, a newcomer to the big city, literally falls at the feet of millionaire tycoon Gideon Cross, launching a torrid affair that unveils secrets from both of their dark pasts. Does this ring a bell? There's a reason it's been dubbed the "soap opera version of Fifty Shades of Grey" by one Amazon reviewer.

17.Vision In White by Nora Roberts

Nora Roberts has written over 200 romance books, but being the first installment of The Bride Quartet, this one received high praise from her readers. Mackensie "Mac" Elliot, a wedding photographer, runs a wedding planning business with three friends. When she meets beautiful and steady English teacher Carter Maguire on the job, their brief flirtation could lead to her own happy ending.

18.The Thorn Birds by Colleen McCullough

This epic multigenerational narrative of life on a sheep station in the Australian Outback is sometimes referred to as "an Australian Gone With the Wind," so if you enjoy that classic, give it a try. Maggie, a resident of the secluded ranch, and an attractive priest have an illegal affair, which is the focus of the story.

19. Love at First Like: A Novel by Hannah Orenstein

Eliza and her sister own a jewellery store, and she accidentally posted an Instagram photo of herself wearing a diamond ring on the wrong finger. When the photo goes viral, she discovers that even a phony engagement is good for business. However, she meets Blake. Except for one thing: Blake isn't aware of her deception, and Eliza isn't sure how much longer she can keep it up.
