Treat Yourself?: A Friday Chat

I think the problem with characterizing something as a “treat” is that my Puritan ethic will guilt me into incurring more “deprivations” to make up for it. When I buy something that is a little frivolous, I think about it as “the privilege of being an adult” because I know I’m responsible, that no one’s keeping score, and that as a kid, I’d be so jealous of me.
