365 Days in Durham | Day 1
At the start of 2015, my resolution was to publish at least once a day for the entire year.
I made it 19 days.
It was not for lack of trying, but it still felt like failure.
Looking back, the mission was doomed from inception. Too many hands in too many cookie jars. Until today, I had not considered exactly how much I was doing entering last year, and the affect it had on my resolution.
When you live in Durham, it is easy to become enamored with the opportunity to participate in a variety of interesting activities. But, if 2015 has taught me anything, it is that one person cannot do it all. Learning to accept that was difficult, but I learned to trust that the community would pick up the slack.
Over time, I became more efficient, knowing when to pick my spots while staying focused on RUNAWAY® and school at North Carolina Central University.
Yet, I still had the urge to interact.
So, in 2016, I will reboot my 2015 resolution and attempt to publish once a day, 365 times. My goal is to chronicle life in Durham through the lens, both literally and figuratively, of a multiracial, 25 year old clothing company owner. My interest in writing (particularly on Medium.com), as well as my growing passion for photography, will carry the narrative throughout this campaign.
This will be a big year in Durham. I aspire to create a place where this journey for me, my company, and the city I love, can be remembered.
Thank you,
Justin Laidlaw
