Leading Indian B-schools have a good summer placement session

While apprehensions regarding falling employment opportunities continue, there is a reliever lining this year with strong summer placement in top B schools.

IIM Kozhikode and IIM Lucknow successfully completed summer placements with 4 days, XLRI Jamshedpur did even better. It completed summer placement in just two days. Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) witnessed a double-digit growth in the average stipend being offered while IIM Calcutta also termed a program that it runs jointly with Indian Statistical Institute and IIT Kharagpur to be a success.

Summer placements indicate the kind of response an institution can expect during final placements. So, this response clearly shows that there will be no dearth of jobs in the market for the final placements.

During a summer internship, a student is required to work for at least 8 weeks to gain experience that usually turns into full-fledged job offers for many students.

Institutes that are done with the summer placement process have shared that the key roles in demand were in fields like consulting, finance and Sales & marketing. At XLRI, sales & marketing roles had 25 percent share in recruitments while finance had 20 percent share.

At IIM Lucknow, sales & marketing roles had 35 percent, finance had 25 percent and consulting had 20 percent share in the top profiles that were offered. At IIM Kozhikode, more than 30 percent of its batch was selected for sales & marketing roles.

The top recruiters among B-School campuses for summer placement were renowned brands like Amazon India, Aditya Birla Group, American Express, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Uber India, Godrej Industries Ltd., Walmart Labs, Deutsche Bank, EY, PwC, ITC Limited, Hindustan Unilever Ltd., Godrej Properties, Bharti Airtel, Axis Bank and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.
