Evolved to be ‘Snob’

Are humans ‘too evolved’ or ‘not evolved enough yet’ as other species still defeat us?

Evolution is ‘change in the genetic composition of a population during successive generations, often resulting in the development of new species’. It is a natural change over many years to increase the success in the generations such as bringing offspring that are as fit as possible meaning that their survivability enhances. Moving from this definition, I have some things to say regarding how smart humans are considering that our unique cognitive abilities are advantageous over the other species -based on our current knowledge-. But is it true in practice, considering that we are still struggling with a plague caused by a creature that is around 300 nanometers in size? My answer is we are not evolved enough to control our emotions and thoughts to make plans to increase our survivability, such as not spending resources on buying something impulsive but instead spending it on something to protect ourselves in the future. Or maybe we are somehow evolved too much that we gained too much autonomy to choose to stay distant from nature and made us snob that we started thinking nothing will ever happen to us while evolution did not intend to make us this way. Think about it!

Considering that hundreds of thousands of people die during global pandemics every once in a hundred year, and reduces the world population, maybe this is a way of nature resisting our exponential population rise as it is not habitable for that many people. Having seen the pictures of the change in canals of Venice, or other nature pictures that started getting their colour back while they were away from human invasion during lockdowns, the plague seems to be the natural weapon to show how underdeveloped humans are, in a humiliating way — losing a lot of lives whenever nano-creature attacks, shows us that we neither have systems nor immunities to cope with nature even though we think that we are the best and smartest creature on earth. At least we act like it, attacking every green corner to exploit it in any way we like, to make papers that are used to complete government papers which in return proves to be useless to save us from nature.

Where does evolution stand here? My point is, neither our emotional or logical brain is good enough to cope with nature when the organisms around us fight back. We have been spending our years being overconfident about ourselves, being too bothered by the comfort that we started attacking our kind while bacterias were sharing DNA bits to become immune to the antibiotics we created. Yes, we learnt how to deal with plagues through scientific tools but we could not learn using them together while it just inflated our egos. Viruses manage to cooperate without having as complex emotion mechanisms as us; while we fail to work together despite all the love songs, we have written. As we were spending our time in such unproductive and even destructive ways, for some reason, we have thought we are the best creature yet that has ever lived on earth. I mean, have you seen a skyscraper built by a virus? Thinking that these materials are our strength, we never thought that we are still as vulnerable as an ant walking on a pavement. Once something stronger walks over you, there is no place for your soul anymore in this world, only your body will remain in the soil. And the word ‘strength’ does not have to be the same as it pops in your brain as it also can mean something else in nature’s language. While we think that we achieved this and that, imagine the things we are failing in while tiny creatures excel at them. One thing is certain, as we try to shout our arbitrary powers to all the other living beings when they do the same against us, they win.

What we need to do is, before it is too late, we need to understand that we are a part of nature rather than feeling like the lion king of the world. We need to kneel in front of the viruses that are proven to be superior to us when we duel, given the fact that we have no power over scheduling the duel even. Mimicking evolution, passing stronger traits to the following generations, we need to use our feelings and mind to teach our kids to love and worship nature instead of trying to conquer. Perhaps over thousands of years, we will have offsprings that respect the other creatures around us without being scared or scary.
