There is a case to be made by the fact that Uzo Aduba is the voice of Bismuth, playing what is fundamentally the same character: a cheerful and friendly “ex-con” type who is provoked into violence and silenced. I wish there was some insight into the decision — to me, it was not until this episode that any kind of racial coding or stereotyping became very clear to me.
