Dwight Eisenhower was an American military officer and former U.S. President, who lived from 1890 to 1961. After being born in Texas and growing up in Kansas, Eisenhower attended West Point in 1911. While attending, he played on the football team and became the junior varsity coach after suffering an injury. After graduating in 1915, Eisenhower was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.
During World War I, Eisenhower requested to serve in Europe but was denied and instead trained tank crews in the United States. Following the war, he promoted to brigadier general in 1941.
