Dwight Eisenhower was an American military officer and former U.S. President, who lived from 1890 to 1961. After being born in Texas and growing up in Kansas, Eisenhower attended West Point in 1911. While attending, he played on the football team and became the junior varsity coach after suffering an injury. After graduating in 1915, Eisenhower was stationed at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas.

During World War I, Eisenhower requested to serve in Europe but was denied and instead trained tank crews in the United States. Following the war, he promoted to brigadier general in 1941. During World War II, he oversaw invasions of North Africa and Sicily and supervised invasions in France and Germany. Following the war, his positions included Army Chief of Staff, president of Columbia University, and supreme commander of NATO.

In 1952, Eisenhower entered the presidential race and won both the 1952 and 1956 elections. During his presidency, Eisenhower created the U.S. Information Agency, established Alaska and Hawaii as states, supported the creation of Interstate Highway System, and signed the bill to form NASA.
