Theodore Roosevelt was the 26th President of the United States, who was born in 1858 and died in 1919. In 1880, Roosevelt graduated from Harvard College and after studied at Columbia Law School before dropping out to pursue a career in politics. At 23, Roosevelt was elected to the New York State Assembly. Following this, he held roles as U.S. Civil Service Commission, president of the New York City Board of Police Commissioners, and assistant secretary of the Navy. In 1989, Roosevelt organized the 1st Volunteer Cavalry and won a key Battle of Santiago in the Spanish-American War. The same year, he was elected governor of New York. In 1900, he was elected with President McKinley as his vice president. After McKinley was killed in 1901, Roosevelt became President. As President, he expanded the presidential powers, increased America’s role in international politics, and won the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1906.
