Gregg Popovich is an American NBA coach and executive, who was born in 1949 in Indiana. He attended the United States Air Force Academy to play basketball and was the team captain and leading scorer his senior year. Popovich graduated in 1970 with a degree in Soviet studies. During his service, he played on the U.S. Armed Forces basketball team across the globe. In 1973, he returned the the Air Force Academy as an assistant basketball coach. He followed this with a head coaching job at a small college, then assistant positions for Kansas, the San Antonio Spurs, and the Golden State Warriors. Finally in 1996, Popovich landed the head coaching position for the San Antonio Spurs, where he remains today.

As a coach, he has won 5x NBA Championships and has been the NBA Coach of the Year three times.
