My most recent challenging learning experience

Learning is one thing that a person can’t avoid, and the end line of that is to either acquire knowledge or experience in one way or another. I want to take a few minutes to define my most recent challenging learning experience that i have gotten at Andela. Some times it’s a pain how we acquire knowledge but if we are being driven by passion, i can testify even the challenge itself is a learning experience. Speaking about Andela, learning is an always experience because the expectations are always great and the ways of producing a product requires ‘knowledge’.. but how exactly is learning attained at Andela, read on!!

One great British celebrated speaker and blogger Jane Hart said something about modern professional learning which i consider best describes my experience at Andela. she wrote “ Modern Professional Learning (MPL), an approach which many professionals are now (consciously or unconsciously) adopting, involves taking responsibility for their own career and self-development through continuous learning, on demand problem solving and getting the most out of their daily work”.

My learning here is daily driven by taking responsibility, being driven by passion, adaptive adjustments, being excellent at what i do and above all being in a place where am continuously learning. Unlike most places i have been to where learning is considered moderate, the team at Andela is hungry to learn, it’s a necessity considering where we are headed and the value that we posses. What challenged me most is the expectation of the learning curve you are supposed to be operating in. It’s very normal to learn in 3 hours at Andela what can be learnt in 2 months else where, for instance on Boot camp day 1, it’s unbelievable that we covered python programming logic, git and TDD from 9 am to lunch time.

Though challenging, it’s a great joy knowing what am acquiring is shaping my professional career. Honestly, not everyone can easily adapt to the learning culture here but once a person identifies him/herself with Andela, Learning in challenging ways becomes another way that brings out the best in you. Let me tell you my secret wish (whisper), if i had been trained to learn this way from my young age, i believe i would be the best that there is because that’s what am beholding me become 4 years from now.
