Why is the world so silent?
Hours, days and even months have passed, but do you realize that the world is still very quiet? I look at the streets, the countries… I look at the parliaments… I still haven’t come across any indication that I can define as sound. Is the saying ‘be quiet while children sleep’ understood as ‘be quiet while children die’?
The date of October 7, 2023 evokes something in each of us. On this date, unprecedented brutality began in Gaza, which is approximately 365 km² in size. To make it easier to imagine this size, I would like to offer the following comparison: Istanbul, a province of Turkey that many people know, covers an area of 5,461 km². This area corresponds to approximately 15 times the size of Gaza. To bring it closer to our minds a little more, let’s give another example: Beykoz, a district of Istanbul, covers an area of 310 km². Gaza, on the other hand, is an area with just 55 km² more area, squeezed into a small area with excessive population density, where bombs have been raining for months.

If the small size of the area where bombs have been raining has brought us closer to understanding, then we are now more ready to discuss the meaninglessness of this silence.
Do you think the world lacks the power to stop this oppression, or is the continuation of oppression not a negative outcome for them? I anticipate that we, as intelligent creatures, can provide the second answer. As mentioned above, genocide actually occurs in a very small area, an area that can be protected with sufficient guidance if necessary. Is any state incapable of raising its voice against i*rael, the genocide of this atrocity?
This genocide continues with cruelty aimed at destroying every area without discrimination. But still, there is not enough awareness. As you know, there are many individuals and organizations in the world defending for rights. There are defenders who stand up with a loud voice when there is oppression elsewhere in the world. But when it comes to Gaza, why do voices mostly remain muted? Of course, let’s defend the rights that need to be defended, but why is there a geographical choice in defending rights? And if there are no laws, are they also applied geographically? i*rael continues to commit genocide by violating international laws moment by moment.
This is just one of countless actions that violate international law… There are many more unlawful acts by Israel in Gaza, where hospitals, places of worship, and international buildings are bombed by a bloodthirsty monster.
When we reduce the situation to individuals beyond the states we refer to as the world, why do you think some individuals remain silent?
Yes, oppression doesn’t only happen today; it continues in different geographies in the West, the East, for centuries. However, when an oppression happens in Europe today, while the majority of people shed tears and cry for help, why is there deep silence when the tip of oppression turns to the East? Does our reaction to oppression choose a color or a geography? While claiming to have a conscience, do consciences show selectivity among oppressions according to their whims? Yes, war is bad, oppression is bad, genocide is bad, but do we make noise by making choices in our reactions and conscience? With all these questions, I invite people with conscience to question, to think, and to be human.
While there is a silent segment, there is also an undeniable truth that there is an awakening in Europe in a way we cannot imagine. Beyond expectations, a segment of people in Europe is carrying out supportive actions for Gaza. A significant part of the world knows that Palestine belongs to the Palestinians and defends it at every opportunity .There are marches causing squares to overflow for Gaza. There is a boycott movement intensively. Beyond this, people are converting to Islam in droves. So what is the reason for the awakening that started in Europe beyond expectations?
The reason for this awakening: The stance of Gaza… Gaza did not show impatience for even a moment to this oppression, it did not show a rebellious stance for even a moment. Despite the difficult conditions they have been experiencing since the first day, without a state or a stance to support them, they exhibited a strong and solid stance. So how was this strong stance against all this oppression achieved and still continues? Because they rely on only one Lord, and they know that there is only one Lord who owns all the property to every drop of blood flowing in their bodies…
Yes, Humanity! This oppression will, INSHALLAH, end very soon, and conquest will come. However, I want to ask us this question… When this oppression ends, will we be on the right side?
In summary…:
Here I am,
I, the Palestinian child!
Can you hear my pains,
Only as much as
The trees, the birds do? …Where are those trying
To rescue whales trapped among glaciers? …
Where are those grieving
For birds soaked in oil?
Where are those showing pity
For stray dogs,
And rushing to their aid? …
