The Implications

Fantastic article Tristan! I wish everyone growing up in today’s high tech world would read this to see just how manipulated by and addicted to technology they really are. Although there is an incredible amount of advantage and power that comes with the little screens we have in our pockets, and I won’t deny the amazing potential they create, younger generations such as myself are becoming hooked on the feeling of social approval as you called it. This addiction isn’t benefiting society in the least. Social media has created a whole new generation of fake, selfish, mindless, and arrogant sheep that do everything and anything for a photo-op. These big tech companies are competing for our attention so much that people no longer have time or take time to live an honest life in my opinion. The reliance on tech has caused our educational system to become a hollowed out version of what it once was. Being a pretty recent high school grad myself, I can say with confidence that all this tech is going to fuel and is perhaps already starting to fuel a mental health crisis in America. I applaud you for the time you took to inform the public about the dangers of this smart tech from an inside perspective, and relating it to magic how you did was just genius. I would like to urge all of the people in my generation to put their phones down, look up, and learn something about what real life is. That life of constant anxiety over social approval over something that isn’t even tangible simply isn’t healthy and will have serious implications down the road.
