The Birth of $BWIF - More Than Just a Tweet

On January 10th, 2024, Franklin Templeton — a global leader in investment management, updated their X profile picture with a depiction of Benjamin Franklin with laser-eyes. This alteration came swiftly after the SEC’s green light for Bitcoin ETFs, signalling a new phase in the cryptocurrency market. The image not only hinted at the forthcoming competitive landscape, but also paid homage to crypto culture; where the iconic red, glowing eyes symbolize a shared identity among enthusiasts.

Seven days later, an anonymous developer on the Solana blockchain launched a meme token called “BenWifHat,” leveraging the momentum generated by the Franklin Templeton tweet. This initiative also paid homage to the well-known meme “DogWifHat.” The amalgamation proved highly ‘memeable,’ and as anticipated, the project gained traction rapidly.

Within the first 24 hours, BenWifHat recorded over $5 million in trading volume. However, it soon became evident that the project was yet another instance of a “pump and dump” scheme. The developer swiftly offloaded their tokens, creating substantial selling pressure that caused the token’s value to plummet. Unfortunately, such practices are all too common, particularly on the Solana network — where low gas fees facilitate buying and selling, making it easier to execute such maneuvers.

But, The $BWIF Community Had a Different Plan…

Following the abrupt downturn, disillusioned investors clamored for a “community takeover” within the Telegram group — a familiar strategy where community members unite to revive a project by amplifying its presence across social platforms. Although such endeavors are notoriously challenging, a dedicated group of individuals joined forces and initiated the revival of BenWifHat.

On February 28th, after weeks of concerted effort in team building, strategic planning, branding, graphic design, and web development, the BenWifHat ($BWIF) revival team unveiled their takeover plan. They introduced new social media channels and shared a link to the official website www.bwiftoken.com

BenWifHat — Why Meme?

Traditional finance wears a suit and tie, $BWIF wears a beanie. Unlike crypto projects born from whitepapers and solemn nods, $BWIF sprang from the fertile ground of internet culture. The project playfully satirizes the institutionalization of cryptocurrency while capitalizing on Bitcoin ETF and crypto legislation developments. BenWifHat shows us that the pursuit of financial literacy doesn’t demand convoluted jargon or gloomy outlooks. By embracing memes, it reminds us that amidst the frenzy of the digital gold rush, we can have a bit of fun while navigating the ever-changing landscape of finance in the digital world.

The $BWIF Hedge Fund
