Imagine this — you are driving on a forest track, in beautiful surroundings. All is well. But suddenly your car gets stuck in the mud. You accelerate as a reaction and the consequence is that you get stuck even more deeply. You get out of the car, annoyed to be stopped like that on your track.
This is a perfect metaphor for a day at work. You are going about your day and your to do list and suddenly something drops and you react. If you don’t have a strategy in place, chances are it will get worse.
To get out of this rut you need to stop, calm down, look at the situation; perhaps use some tools, sometimes go backward, get some help. Consciousness is what will help you connect and calm down, look for a solution to get out of this rut. Mindfulness is the tool that would have ensured you hadn’t accelerated in the first place.
Closing your eyes and breathing in fresh air will help you clear your mind to allow ‘unconscious solution retrieval’ in neuro lingua, meaning connecting memories to observations of the current situation to come up with a solution. Your brain will scan all the neuronal assembly, memories formed, and sync the more adapted one. But for this your whole body needs to stop and be more aware of the situation.
Your reaction to this unexpected event can be an action or a reaction. Being stuck in the first place is no failure; chaos is generative. How would you like to be in the future? Let’s start now!
A reflexive practice through coaching, or self-driven like mindfulness or journaling, can help you transform conscious choices into unconscious responses. Practice will help you build new habits and help you to create an unconscious constructive way of responding to events, saving your energy, your relationships and your career.
Have a great week
