How to Apply Mercury Retrograde in Taurus to Your Birth Chart in May 2016

The planet Mercury is going through one of its seasonal retrograde cycles. Essentially, this means the motion of the planet begins to slow down between April 28th until May 21st. The next three and half weeks presents a time for introspection. Mercury joins four other planets and the North Node on this journey of contemplation.

Some astrologers suggest not to finalise any agreements during this time because they could go awry. However, I don’t tend to share this view because the mercurial qualities are more pronounced during this phase. The reason for this is that during a retrograde cycle, Mercury is in between the Sun and Earth. As a result of this, the energies are more concentrated and you can use them in a grounded way. Particularly because currently, Mercury is in Taurus, which is a very practical earth sign. Consequently, you can give more considered thought to the actions you’ll take.

Every transiting planet that is currently moving through the sky will have a place in your birth chart. Each chart has three basic elements namely; planets, signs and houses. The planets express particular psychological urges and motivations. They are similar to verbs in that they show a certain type of action. For example, Saturn restricts and Mercury communicates.

The signs represent twelve types of attitudes you may have towards life. The sign allows the planet to express itself. For instance, Mars can assert in a Sagittarian way. Or Venus can harmonise using Virgoan qualities. However, houses show the specific areas of day to day life in which this is happening. Therefore, the houses bring your birth chart down to earth. This helps you to focus your attention on how you may work with planetary energies.

Mercury is retrograding in Taurus, where the Sun currently is. This placement means they are both in the first house of a natural astrological chart. If Mercury’s position reflects your own chart your attention will be on self-progression. You’ll have a tendency to do this through cautious self-assessment. Afterwards, you’ll be in a stronger position to take action.
