Week 1
We can sum up week one in a single word — dust.
Walls came down, floors came up & there was a general air of destruction about the place. We sectioned off areas of the store to keep it safe for our brave customers & staff walked around with dusters in hand (we’d already managed to break both vacuum cleaners).
Staff drew straws for who would open up early & stay late to assist the contractors. We’d shut up shop at 2am & then an early 6am start would roll around what felt like moments later.
Week 2
Week two made us all feel excited as we started to see the project come together. Our bedroom department was set up & walls were painted. The installation of low-energy LED lighting also added immediate freshness to the space.
Week 3
Sometimes in life you have to go backwards in order to go forwards & that is what week 3 felt like. As one area was completed, all the furniture & furnishings from another area were transferred into the completed area to make space for further renovations. And alas, we ran out of carpet!
However the highlight of week 3 was truly the flooring. Our old laminate floor aisle way was stripped back & turning into polished concrete, resembling palazzo.
Week 4
By week 4, we could safely say the whole team was exhausted. Thankfully the 2am nights were over, but the early starts weren’t.
New walls were erected & new flooring was laid. The LED lighting installation was complete & we were all beginning to feel proud of what we had created… but there was still a lot of work to do.
Week 5
At last, the final week with contractors arrived & there was light at the end of the tunnel! Our counter was moved (with all hands on deck), our giftware department destroyed & recreated & the last of the flooring & electrical work completed.
Come Friday, there was a mad scramble to reassemble to store in time for the weekend. All wall art & rug layout plans were abandoned & we just did our best to make things work.
Week 6
Time for the finishing touches. Chandeliers were installed & our talented Interior Designers worked overtime to create the magical space we are so proud of.
