Are there coincidences?
On my way back from the market this afternoon, I passed a little art school. It had a sign advertising “learn to draw”.
I thought I would finally make time to take a couple of lessons to help with my appreciation of illustrations of all types, as well as finding one more way to simply express ideas that take too many words to convey.
When I got home, I checked my e-mail and found a new afternoon post from medium.com. Yours was the article I thought I’d try as drawing was still on my mind.
Now I don’t have to travel to learn. You tutorial is so thoughtful and full fleshed out with few or no excess words. Can’t wait ’til after dinner so I can scratch all over a piece of paper.
As far as suggestions go, if you feel you have time, you may want to include a famous painting or illustration with an arrow you provide directing our eyes to say, how a vanishing point was used, or how light emphasizes something the artist wants us to see. Otherwise, please, just keep writing and I’ll keep reading.
One last thought.
I believe, as a writer, I’ll create better scenes, if I can visualize them as say how an artist would make a movie story-board or a comic illustrator would fill a frame to emphasize action, or mood. Your lesson(s) will help me achieve that goal.
Many thanks…
