The Northern Michigan Ice Palace Scenic Route
I’ve lived in Michigan my whole life. I spent the first 18 years in Northern Michigan on the AuSable River. Then, when I turned 18 I went off to college in Southeast Michigan where I currently live. You’d think that after all of these years with nature at the bottom of my heels, I would have seen the all the different shores of the Great Lakes more than most. Not true — especially in the Winter months…
Just this year (2017) I got explore the Leelanau Peninsula area and some of the magnificent beaches. I knew it was going to be cold and a little icy, but I did not expect it to be so gorgeous!
Many of you may not know that there are fabulous destinations right in your back yard that might surprise you. So the moral of this story is of course to always take the scenic route, even during the frigid Winter season.
Here are just a few photos from my one Afternoon adventure:
The Scenic Route — North Scenic Hwy 22:
- Inspiration Point Road, Glen Arbor, MI
- Robert H. Manning Memorial Lighthouse, Empire, MI
- Sleeping Bear Dunes, Platte River, Beulah, MI
