Overview

Usability testing is one of the most important parts of the web design process. It is important for ensuring that a product or website is easy to use.

Objective

The goal of doing this attempt is to discover the painpoints in BSI Mobile’s share mutation process and identify whether the new design is has made it easier to do such a task.

Target Users

Working professionals age 20–35 who use mobile banking apps and have the need to check their money balanced once a while to ensure the expenses. User had either had to share their mutation or not.

Methodology

Qualitative Usability Testing

Questions needed to be answered

  1. Can users easily enter their account and see their balance expenses information ?
  2. Can user easily operate the share account mutation feature on the purpose ?

Tasks

Users were asked to perform the following tasks after the scenarios were being given, such as:

1. Enter the mobile banking account along the access attempt

2. Select the flow to check the money expenses

3. Choose the attempt to share the account mutation and go through the process.

An example scenario would be : “Imagine that you are going to check money expenses in your organization’s bank account, and then hand out the information through your workgroup.”

Summary & Insights

Task 1 : Enter the mobile banking account along the access attempt.

At the first step, all users managed to complete this process without any problems. Users realize they couldn’t click the login button before they filled the box with the access code. It implied on the order to insert the access code on the box, and the disabled login button. After they filled the access code, the login button could be pressed, and users could go to the next step.

Task 2 : Select the flow to check the money expenses.

At this process, users were able to do the tasks almost completely. There’s one process where there was a user who thought the total transaction could be selected on the numerous amount, but user could go back to the flow and complete this process.

Task 3: Choose the attempt to share the account mutation.

At this stage, all users could do the tasks without much problem. There was no real obstacle, just there was a process where users thought they could choose the application randomly which where the files could be shared.

Based on the results of the UT, all users completed all the tasks successfully. While there were some minor cases when user confused whether to choose the amount of expenses should be presented, and another application that could be selected.

Here is the following prototype:

After doing the UT based on the tasks and asking several questions through the UT process, all users were agree that the new design is better, looks more modern, and the interface is quite simple so it’s easier to use than the current BSI Mobile design. These are considered by the color choosen, layout that lead users well, and the visual hierarchy made the whole interface looked enticing but still showed an approach the formality of mobile banking.

Lesson Learned

Creating a prototype is the mixed of fun and tears when you’re into it. Author was motivated to develop more about this process. Comments and feedback are really appreciated.
