Stop Selling Math For Its Usefulness

How would you comment on the work of people who wrote these things:

*n* factorial equals *n* raised to the power *n*…;

all terms in the Taylor’s series after the first one can be neglected (for an arbitrary function)…

which led these guys to physical equations that are generally recognized as basic laws verified by experiment — did they *love* mathematics or did they simply *need* it? After all, they discovered and explained important physical laws… (or at least made people think so…)

How would you comment on the work of teachers and textbook writers who do not teach how those laws were discovered?
