It’s been a great few months at COSY.
In less than six months, we have managed to amass over 50 articles, 28 original writers, and a growing list of visual artists to create a publication for the future generation.
We are stunned with the reception from our readers who intuitively understand our mission to create a powerful educational tool showcasing esoteric ideas to the foreground, as well as championing unheard perspectives in modern day society.
It motivates us every single day to continue — not for financial gain, but because we genuinely believe that we are doing meaningful and important work.
So why do we need money?
We are completely independently driven, consisting primarily of two people; Martyna Runkowska (founder) and Haider Saleem (editor).
We run exclusively on no budget, and work extra jobs to make it possible to write, distribute, manage and promote our content on a continuous basis.
As we have plans to expand into podcasts, and continually publishing rich articles, we realise our monetary limitations and are actively seeking funding from investors who are able to let us do this as a full-time job.
But for now, we are focused on broadening our outreach to readers, writers, artists, and potential investors as much as possible through advertising revenue.
So we have started a Patreon for those who are kindly willing to help us out by financially support our mission.
We will first invest the money through social media marketing on Facebook and Instagram, as it has proven to be an effective way of getting younger readers to engage with our content.
If we are fortunate to amass more than £100 a month, we will be able to put the money towards state of the art technology for a COSY podcast (which we are actively preparing for).
Currently, we pay out of our own pocket to make this possible, but if you are a fan of COSY, you could play a huge part in helping us together become a publication worth appraisal.
Do I have to?
We’ll be clear. It is important for us to keep COSY as free and accessible as possible, as we consider it to be a powerful educational platform for future generations.
That’s why we are committed to always being an ad-free publication, and aside from the Medium Partner Program for some of our articles — never charging someone to read our articles.
We always hear in a time of degrading attention spans that COSY is the only thing people read, and it is still bewildering when receiving the praise we do.
So we hope we can continue doing what we are doing, as best and as much as we can with your help.
How much are you asking for?
We started with initiatives for multiple tiers and rewards, but have since re-evaluated this strategy and decided it isn’t the best way to go.
For now, we have settled for £1 a month, so little you won’t notice it gone from your account, but so much for us that we can promote our stories efficiently.
We will personally thank you for your support, and as a COSY Friend, you’ll be the first to know about new developments at COSY, and where we plan to go next.
If you are unable to financially support us, that is completely okay. We plan on keeping the publication as free and accessible as it is now, and don’t plan on selling out whatsoever.
Fundamentally, the future of media is in our hands and we are the collective voice shaping thought. It is a powerful responsibility that we will never take lightly.
We are just aware that we have many fans of COSY who are perhaps willing to help us out, who can make a tremendous difference with a small amount of money per month.
To reassure you, we are certainly not profiting from COSY at this point from Patreon. It just means we can progress faster into newer COSY projects by broadening our fans, and attract the attention of more people.
Whether you are able to help us with our Patreon or not, we are mostly grateful to have you as a reader, writer, creator, and everything in between.
This is the beginning of a beautiful journey, and we hope we can continue walking alongside you.
