Day 12 — Friday, January 29 Inward Focus on Actually Making Disciples

On this 5th day of our inward focus, we are praying as a church that we actually make disciples. This is how our dream statement reads,

“We want to be amazed as we watch life change on a supernatural scale. We want to see men become real men, real husbands, and real fathers. We want to see families that are different because they have been changed by the power of Jesus. We dream of watching children grow up among our church family to become world changers, and we dream of helping people of all ages and from all backgrounds become true self-denying, God loving, Jesus following, Spirit filled disciples.”

Discipleship starts and ends with Jesus. A biblical disciple is first and foremost a follower of Jesus. Disciples commit themselves to following Jesus’ ways, His commands, and His teaching. For Christ Centered Church to fulfill its dream of actually making disciples, we first must become disciples before we make disciples. Then, as His disciples, Jesus gives us this commission from Matthew 28:18–20,

“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Jesus commissions His church — He commissions Christ Centered Church — to go and make disciples of all nations. He commissions us to baptize people from every tongue, tribe, and nation. He commissions us to teach believers to observe all that He has commanded. As part of His commission, Jesus gives us two promises: that we go with His authority and we go with His presence. Jesus makes us disciples, He commissions us, and He goes with us to actually make disciples.

  1. How does your life need to change in order to become a more Christ-like disciple? Pray for God to help you change.
  2. Who in your life needs to hear the good news of everything God has done for us through Jesus Christ? Pray that God would open doors for you to speak the truth in love.

Today’s short but powerful prayer “SBPP” is, “Lord all authority is yours, help us to actually make disciples.”
