Maybe having optional settings is a good idea… for what would work best for the individual.

I think I’d leave it as it is: I have almost trained myself to use my middle finger when I just want the locked screen features (skip song or go back 15–30 seconds on a podcast). The middle finger says, “Hey, not so fast there.”
