Diminutives are often used affectionately, of course, but I am curious why you refer to your partner as ‘The Boy’. I assume you aren’t dating a child. Does he have a name and is actually a man? I’ve made a concerted effort to refer to women as ‘women’ instead of ‘girls’ and men as ‘men’ as it often seems unintentionally derogatory to do otherwise. Calling grown adults by childish terms serves to demean them, such as when whites would call black men, who were often actually older than the white speaker, ‘boys’ as a means of reminding them of their enforced lower social status in the past. Could your partner not have a pseudonym in your articles? Or be referred to by his actual name if you are serious about your relationship?
