One Legged Table

Working from home can be a tedious experience if the environment is not quite right for it. On the other hand it could save a lot of time to be able to get right down to work without having to take a ride through all the traffic to the work place. Having worked from home over the years I enjoyed custom designing “work from home furniture “, which makes it a pleasurable experience to sit and doodle!

The one legged table was an idea that I found on Houzz (https://www.houzz.com/photos/breakfast-nook-traditional-living-room-new-york-phvw-vp~515734). This inspired the working nook in the bedroom. The table top was easily supported off the timber louvered partition, the table having its only leg, to one side. This became an ideal spot isolated from the rest of the house to sit and ponder!

The view out side the window is that of fully grown trees, a welcoming break to the tired eyes .

Customizing furniture can also be a lot of fun. Specially when it comes to children’s furniture that is designed according to child anthropometric measurements. Experimenting with colours, textures and incorporating artefacts like ceremic door knobs for handles can complement the design adding zest to the whole process.

At the same time the entire exercise helps to oganize the books and toys in order to declutter the room. Underutilized spaces can benefit through the transformation putting them to use. This comes in handy especially with changing needs over time.

It is a good past time to design furniture. To start off, some knowledge on anthropometric data will be required. Exploring the material market also proves useful. It will come in handy to know different types of timber that is available for use and alternative material such as steel to create contrast or strengthen the design. This information also helps to complete the design within budget.

If the transformation that took place after the ‘one legged table ‘ is something that you often wonder how you did without, I would say your efforts are fruitful.
