Every society has within it what may be called Dixiecrat extremists. When the Democrats began to support civil rights in the 60’s, Republicans saw an opening to bring into the fold the Dixiecrat element for their margin of victory. Now that margin of victory faction runs the show. Playing with fire has left the GOP burning.
