How is it that demagogues like Trump find it so easy to trick large numbers of folks into voting against their own self interest? It is ego pure and simple. Ego is the primitive foundation of the mind. Its sole purpose it to seek self advantage — one’s most basic defense mechanism.

But an ego devoid of at least some intellectual enhancement is easily tricked. Thus millions of folks thinking demagogues are offer them political candy flock to their siren call, blinded by their childish egos.

This is why the American founding father distrusted pure democracy. Being themselves devotees of the French enlightenment, they understood that the masses lacked the necessary degree of sophistication that would give them immunity to demagoguery. So in the beginning they created a Republic. Trump is no Republican.
