Introduction:

Rebar Detailing is a thorough construction engineering procedure, usually done by Rebar suppliers, experts in structural engineering or contractors to prepare a Rebar placing drawing and a Bar Bending Schedule. Rebar Details are required to do qualified and experienced Rebar Details. You also need a Rebar Detailing program such as RGS REBAR to complete this work with quality and promptly.

Rebar Detailing is named differently in various countries such as Rebar scheduling, RC Detailing and Bar Bending schedule predation, RC Drafting, etc.

In every construction project, the Bar Bending schedule is a major headache. Many construction project managers believe that the on-site preparation of the Bar Bending schedule can be done. I also want to use hand measurements or Excel sheets in a report. Bar Bending schedule is too difficult to use for planning all these rudimentary processes. This is mainly due to the fact that Rebar Placing drawing training is not in practice in many countries and therefore they do not know the proper way to prepare a Bar Bending schedule.

I ask readers to understand why Rebar's description is a compulsory procedure in many countries and what the benefits are. To reiterate, if Rebar placing drawings are not prepared by your company, you are wasting a lot of Rebar and your structure’s quality is questionable. I’m just trying to stress the importance.

Purpose:

A) To prepare an error-free bar bending schedule, the concrete formwork should fit without any problem when manufactured. For accounting and invoicing, the same Bar Bending Schedule will be used.

B) Make a detailed drawing for the location of Rebar (wrongly referred to as Rebar Shop drawings). This Rebar drawing directs an Ironworker so that the Rebar can be correctly positioned on the ground.

C) To allow the structural engineer to check and authorize the proper conversion of the structural design in the Rebar Placing drawings and Bar bending schedules.

D) Analyzing the Rebar waste and reducing the potential scrap that exists at the Drawing level.

Skills Required:

Rebar detailing is a detailed and involved job that will have a major impact on the house. The following skills are required to do Rebar detailing.

1. To read the structural drawings to understand how an architect plans to construct the structure with various structural elements such as Footings, Slabs, Walls, Beams, Staircases, etc. A knowledge on Pile caps, piers, columns, Abutment walls, phylon, etc. is required to do infrastructure projects.

2. To read and understand the notes, schedules and other information relevant to detailing the different elements in Rebar.

3. Reading building drawings from other trades such as Architectural and MEP to test accuracy, conflict, and any other ambiguities that impact description Rebar.

4. To lift an Information Request (RFI) to the appropriate stakeholder and seek answers for missing information, unclear circumstances, disputes, etc.

5. To have a basic understanding of how to fix various structural elements. For example, we’re going to take a BEAM What are the Beams dimensions and the supports?
What is the general cover to adopt on Beam’s top, bottom and side faces?

Does the feature have any complications, such as measures, variations in size between continuous beams, variations in depth, etc.? The detailer must check that such complications exist and provide adequate details.
What is a normal continuous beam of the specific Rebar?

Where can the top and bottom bars be lapped? Where can’t you lap? (This is the basic knowledge a detailer must have. He should be aware of the tension and strain zones and at least know how to draw a Bending Moment diagram. Those details should help in the long run) What is the Lap length to follow? Is this code (ACI describes Class A B voltage / compression laps etc.) or is it provided by the structural engineer.

What is to be done with the Bar supports and other accessories? / How do you measure the quantity?
Where will Rebar congestion generally occur? (Column-Beam junction in beams.) How can these congestion problems be solved?
Will the Element be poured with any other element or separately? Do you need to provide any Dowels(Startup Bars in Middle East language) in that case?

Does any Rebar need special treatments such as Epoxy coating, coupler end threads, etc.?

6. To have a strong knowledge describing Rebar What is the code to use in detail?
What is specified in the code for the different standard Bend shapes?
What is the Code’s recommended Pin Diameter?

What are the normal lengths for various angles of the hook?
What are the lengths of the lap to use?
How to measure lengths of development?
What is to be followed by the Cut Length calculation?

How to measure bar sizes and quantity from the Structural Engineer’s Steel Areas. This skillset is required when working on UK projects, and this experience is needed in many countries to choose different bar sizes based on site requirements. Please note that the other bar sizes should be certified by the structural engineers.

7. To understand the process of Rebar Fabrication (Cutting & Bending) properly?

What are the correct bar sizes?
What would be the regular stock lengths readily available for manufacturing?
Is Rebar Bent in the store or on the site?
Do they or do they not use CNC machines?

What would be Bar bending schedule’s favorite format?
If the list of CNC Bars is required, which format is needed?
What are the delivery restrictions for L Bars and Arc Bars etc?
What’s the maximum length of shipping?
What will the maximum Transport Rebar truck load be allowed?

8. To have a good understanding of the presentation style of Rebar Placing drawing to suit the crew of Contractors Placing.

The drawings of the placement are prepared in various ways.
The detailer will know the client’s preferences and prepare drawings in that style for Rebar Placing.
Understanding the approval process for Rebar Detailing and putting Rebar drawings is also easier.

9. To do Rebar detailing using 2D Rebar detailing software such as RGS REBAR or 3D Rebar detailing software such as VISKAR BIM The Rebar detailer should first know how to use paper and pencil to manually detail Rebar. It is necessary to understand the fundamentals. Before even using some tech, this should be done.

It is undoubtedly a wrong approach to do Rebar detailing in an Excel sheet or piece of paper. I will explain separately how this contributes to site wastage of Rebar and how the quality of the buildings is destroyed due to lack of professional practices.
Rebar detailing will be laborious, error-prone and usually end up in a big Mess with basic CAD software.
