I start this list off with a disclaimer that unfortunately not all of these icons completely adhered to their ideals, and despite their controversies, I believe we may learn from everyone’s perspectives nonetheless.

Humans have to this date struggled immensely to come to terms with their hypocritical treatment of other animal species. Despite our shared biological capacity to feel pain and desire to be free being more than enough to extend our compassion to each other, we continue to categorize our fellow sentient beings deciding the way they should be treated based on our prejudices towards their species, race, gender, age, sexual orientation, etc.

The fight for animal liberation and human liberation, is one and the same, and total liberation can not afford to leave either behind.

Mahatma Gandhi | 1869 — 1948

“The greatness of a nation and it’s moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”

“I hold that the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man”
