True. But as you noted in another comment, who you are matters as well.
Ultimately, this about getting considered, to be in the running. Fit is also important. Being a bit personal is an opportunity to step away from the norm. It’s also a chance to apply a reverse filter of sorts, and thus not be contacted (read: bothered) by an employer you’d have little or no interest in.
All work being equal — and that’s a fairly common problem — they need to know you can work with them, and they with you. Skills matters, but (don’t be naive) so does personality, likability, etc.
