Water Me

when
the one
you have
loved
loses his
mind and
then his
faculties
the plant
screams
water me

when
the one
thing
that has
tied you
together
for 30 years
unwinds
without
sound
the plant
screams
I need sunlight

when you
wake to
find
you have
changed
and he
didn’t
or couldn’t
notice
something
dies once
again
the plant
screams out
I’m wilting

future plans
life long
dreams
things
you thought
you would
always
do as two
become lost
in the mix
the plant
yells for
more oxygen

when you
know
something
terrible
is wrong
and instead
he lies
when asked
you know
something
just flew
out the window
possibly
your heart
on new wings
the plant
knows it
is dying now

love
is fleeting
love is
rare
love is
there
if you
care for it
love is
a plant
that you
water daily
watch it grow
or die
it’s your choice
provide for it

vows and
promises
made
are not
for breaking
they are
for mending
each other
back together
when buttons
fall off
and seams
rip apart
the plant starts
dropping leaves

you stay
until
it’s clear
you cannot
love is
a plant
best care
for it
until you
can’t
bear to
watch it
wither and die
the plant is
screaming
you murdered me
intentionally
you withheld
everything from me
