The internet has plenty of articles containing crazy facts about Brazil — most of which are actually full of well-known generic info like the Amazon rainforest being big, or the national football team being quite good.

I used to live in Brazil, and often heard the phrase O Melhor do Brasil é o Brasileiro: “the best of Brazil is the Brazilian”.

It’s completely true, so I thought I’d throw together an article explaining some fascinating quirks of these hilarious and misunderstood people.

Brazilians are obsessed with hygiene: Brazilians probably take more showers than any other country in the world, with the average person taking 12 per week, compared to only 5 in the UK, China, or Japan.

This is partly explained by the country’s hot sticky climate, but not entirely. People only take 8 in Mexico, Australia and the Middle East, and fewer still in India, Indonesia or Spain.
