I am personally acquainted with a young woman who was arrested on a misdemeanor marijuana charge in Oklahoma. She was a college student and within a month of the end of the semester. She was unable to afford bail and was kept in jail for nearly a MONTH before she was finally brought to trial (at which time she was fined and released on probation WITHOUT any credit for time served). As a consequence of this, she lost any credit for the entire semester for which she was enrolled.
This was a misdemeanor NONVIOLENT crime and the state of Oklahoma outright screwed her.
