The Misunderstanding Mess

There seems to be this pervasive attitude that if people don’t get what you’re saying, it’s their problem.


It’s yours. 99% of the time.

You’re not communicating clearly. And if you want to be important, you need to careif people understand you. “I’m only responsible for what I say, not what you understand”. Wow. What a crappy attitude. And an inaccurate statement.

If you’re a teacher, it’s your responsibility to help your kids understand you. If you’re a manager or CEO, it’s your job to help your employees and customers understand you. If you’re a salesperson, it’s your job to help clients understand you.

Of course there will be times when you’re articulating properly and everyone else gets it but one person. That’s the 1% of the time where you can reasonably say…”this is your problem”.

Otherwise, take ownership. Learn to communicate clearly. Help people understand you.
