US generals at the time said that the bomb was completely unnecessary. Japan surrendered because the Soviets put them in their crosshairs, not because America started deliberately targeting civilians with atomic bombs, and even if it was because of the bombs, how is that ethical? Is it still ethical now? Would it be moral for America to start targeting civilian populations with nukes in another problematic nation to effect regime change today?
