Five steps are involved in a Root Canal Treatment in Pasadena and are performed in one or two dental visits. The steps involved are:
1. Radiography of the tooth using x-rays is taken to examines the condition of the tooth.
2. Then local anesthesia is given to the infected tooth to numb and a protective sheet called a “dental dam” is isolated around the tooth to keep it clean during the procedure.
3. An opening is made in the crown of the tooth and a small instrument is used to clean the pulp chamber and root canals and shape it for filling.
4. After the cleaning is done, biocompatible material called gutta-percha is used to fill the root canals. Later the gutta-percha is placed with an adhesive cement to ensure that the root canal is completely sealed.
5. At the final visit of root canal treatment, a crown is placed on the tooth to protect and restore it to full function.
If the tooth lacks to hold the restoration in place, a post is placed inside the tooth to hold it. For more details ask our Endodontist in Pasadena about the specific restoration plan for your tooth.
