1. Lake James State Park is home to Paddy’s Creek Bridge.

This wooden bridge is one of the park’s main attractions and is known for having wonderful views of the sunrise.

2. It’s conveniently located just off of Interstate 40.

Not only is it not far from the interstate, it is less than an hour from the city of Asheville, and just 1.5 hours from Charlotte.

3. Lake James has lots of fun and informative events!

4. There are so many trails to hike and bike on!

Lake James State Park is home to a plethora of trails that vary in length. Whether you’re looking for a short 0.3 mile hike, or a lengthy six mile bike ride, there’s a trail available for you to take advantage of!

5. There’s plenty of room for camping!

This park is home to over 30 family-friendly drive-to campsites. But for those looking for even more adventure, there is a boat-in campground too!

6. See our national bird!

The Lake James area is has a healthy amount of Bald Eagles year-round, and is home to a nest site that has been active for over a decade.

7. The flora is beautiful to see.

Beautiful plants you’ll be able to see at Lake James State Park include the Pink Lady’s Slipper, Flame Azalea, Jack-In-The-Pulpit, and more!

8. The fauna is beautiful to see too!

Animals you can see while at Lake James State Park include the Eastern Box Turtle, Deer, Tree Frogs, Red Salamanders, and more!

9. Go Swimming in the Lake!

Beat the heat and cool down in the nice waters of Lake James! The swimming area is open throughout the summer season and you can swim for a small fee.

10. You can go boating on the lake.

If you prefer not to swim, but still want to go on the water, kayaks, canoes, and stand-up paddleboards are available to rent and take out for a spin!
