No Time Tomorrow

There’s no time in the future

Because it doesn’t exist

It’s the hope of what’s to come

Hoping it does

There’s no time like the present

Because the present you can change

There’s no time to borrow

Finish today

There’s no time tomorrow

I’ve already explained part of this poem in my last blog — “I’ll Do It Tomorrow” … Will You? — though I didn’t explicitly say I did. The idea behind this one is simple enough. We get comfortable with the thought that we’re able to hold off until tomorrow. Or we’re eager about what the future holds and we want everything now. But there’s power in living in the now.

There are times when I have conversations with family and even old friends; They’ll refer to me how I used to be. There was once a time when I hear “Caleb, I liked you better a few years ago when…” When I didn’t like who I was? Before I started becoming more self-aware and growing in the way I wanted to be?

It’s important to learn from the past so that we don’t need to make those same mistakes again, but we shouldn’t live in the past. And we definitely shouldn’t hold people to who they used to be. It’s dangerous to live in the past because it disorients your reality.

Living in the now can influence our future, but the only real change we can make is based on what we do presently. In that same right; what we’re going through now is based on what we’ve done or been through.

We can’t live in the future. As I’ve said in the poem, the future doesn’t exist. We can only assume we know what’s going to happen. In a perfect world, you’re not acting on assumptions, instead, you’re making decisions based on informed predictions.

There’s a curious danger about getting so lost in the future that you don’t live presently enough to work towards the future you want.

Whether you’re someone who dwells in the past, lives in the moment, or dreams of the future; You’ll make the most of life by living in the present. Live authentically, Intentionally, unapologetically, and most importantly; In the now.
