If Chris Nolan Directed Disney’s Dumbo…

Summary

A socially awkward circus showgirl has a deformed child by an unknown father. After refusing to allow her managers to use the child in a freak side show, some of the other showgirls plant drugs in her room and get her locked up. The child is then forced to perform in the new show.

A dwarf from the circus has compassion for him and becomes a stand in father figure to the unfortunate youth. He convinces the managers to give the child a less humiliating role as an acrobat but this ultimately fails when his deformity causes him and his fellow performers to fall from the rafters, mid-show. The ring master responds by giving the child an even more humiliating role than before.

Disheartened, the dwarf and the child take to drinking. They begin hallucinating, black out, and wake up on a roof of a building with no apparent ladders or stairs. Still slightly drunk from the moonshine, which we now understand had been spiked with PcP by the clowns they stole it from, the unlikely duo have a vision in which several crows land on the roof and begin mocking them, in English.

The dwarf, high, drunk, and desperate for an answer as to how they could have gotten in their predicament, has a sudden epiphany in which he realizes that they must have flown up to the roof. The dream birds mock this idea, but then offer the child a magical feather which is said to grant the power of flight.

Disoriented, the two jump off the building, to their deaths.
