Today is the first day since he was a child that Colin Kaepernick is not on a football team…and…
Shaun King

Shaun, as much as the removal of this player smacks of cowardly injustice, your plea for people to discontinue watching their games is not only unimaginable, but it will ultimately prove antithetical. I say this with the utmost respect and solidarity. The only people that would conceivably boycott the NFL either don’t watch football to begin with, or are extremely passive about their viewership. There is a very good chance that these people already fall far on the left side of the spectrum.
Because of this, any effort to boycott the organization would only serve to further alienate people with progressive social views from the embedded racism of mainstream culture. I don’t think this is a good tactic. It’s likely that the vast, vast majority of NFL fans already disapprove of Kaepernick’s politics, (plenty of them showed up to comment on this thread) but the action you’re asking for here all but guarantees that the entire fanbase becomes a hive-mind of people who will ardently reject any whiff of dissent or progressive social views.
Did you see the movie Concussion? A quote comes to mind…
“…you’re going to war with a corporation that has twenty-million people — on a weekly basis — craving their product, the same way they crave food. The NFL owns a day of the week… The same day the church used to own — now it’s theirs.”

One clap, two clap, three clap, forty?
