Ria Manwar just finished a four-week internship with Caliber. Looking back over her time with us, she chats everything from spreadsheets and influencer data through to Thursday breakfasts.

Everyone knows how good a few well-placed internships can make your CV look. It’s one of the key factors lecturers hammer home as they attempt to get you ready for the big bad world of employment. If you’re reading this, then the chances are you might be looking for an internship of your own. Hey, you might even be wanting to apply here (at Caliber) and are wanting to know exactly what my internship experience involved.

It’s a bit of a cliché to go on about how amazing placements are (especially when they’re strategically positioned on the company blog), but in this case, it really was everything I’d hoped for. Here’s what I learnt from it.

1. Embrace change

My top tip for anyone doing agency work is to be able and willing to change. No one day will ever be the same, whether you’re ideating campaigns or outreaching to influencers, so it’s crucial to be able to adapt to whatever you’re tasked with — variety is the spice of life, after all! I got to grips with tasks which kept me on my toes from the get-go — there’s no mandatory intern coffee making here (disclaimer — I still don’t know how to make coffee).

2. Speak up

As an agency, Caliber respects your time and knowledge. I was often asked to sit in on meetings and one thing which I learnt from this was that it never hurts to speak up. Sometimes you might be sitting on invaluable insight which no one else has thought twice about, so speaking up could hold the key to a successful project!

3. Have fun

Most importantly, it’s important to love what you do. In Caliber, that came easy. I worked with brands in industries ranging from travel to retail and I learnt the ins and outs of what makes a great campaign. When all that was finished, it was the agency’s culture which really made my time here. On Thursdays, the whole team gathers around the office kitchen for a delicious breakfast (usually a combination of croissants and continental meats — with a few avocados thrown in for good measure). As well as being absolutely scrumptious, it helped to set me up for whatever challenges the days would throw at me.
